Industrial design - Making a factory set piece for film
3D environment
video tutorial

In this recording you can watch me create an industrial set prop from start to finish.

I've started modeling the 3d prop. At the moment there's no direction on how this should look, i have a rough image in my head of an abandoned factory brought back to life, the idea that the lead actor just flicked a switch that hasnt been used in 50 years. So lots of grime and moss.

Once the 3d model is complete i'll unwrap the UV's and texture the model. Later i'll create the the digital set and add in the prop. From there i can set up lighting, render this off, paint and reproject back into the scene. I'll add in a few animated parts and perhaps a little post animation of steam and dust.

Industrial design - Lift shft
3d environment
video

The Lift shaft will be a vertical view matte painting projected with a camera move. I will also be adding a little grime and decay to give the sense of been derelict. Oh and one or two alien plants whisping there way around!

Right now i'm still in the process of developing the 3d environment. I've built the basic floor module which will be duplicated to build the shaft, i've unwrapped the geometry and started the textures.

I can't wait to start the projection painting and add in all that extra detail and plants! lots of fun ahead.
